The Ground-breaking work of EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It has been used for over 30 years in a range of settings internationally. The World Health Organisation and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) regard EMDR as a Level 1 treatment for PTSD.
How does it work?
Using the phased approach to EMDR Therapy, Monica works with the clients to identify a specific problem as a focus for the treatment session. The client then calls to mind the disturbing issue or event, what was seen, felt, heard, thought, etc. Eye movements or other bilateral stimulation are then used. These eye movements are used until the memory becomes less disturbing and is associated with a positive thought and belief about yourself
Why use EMDR?
The approach has been used widely all over the world and is widely regarded as a highly effective treatment for trauma and related mental health issues. Many people come to see us asking to try EMDR as they want to move beyond traditional talking based therapies.
